ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research report is to explain and identify the many different types of substance abuse and the consequences that will occur. Substance Abuse affects people of all ages and many others become affected their entire life with this addiction. It is a very complex disease, and it affects teens with poor self-esteem, emotional or mental health problems such as depression are also at increased risk. Substance Abuse and Dependency are among our young youth and can lead to problems at school, cause violent behaviors and can also affect their future permanently.
The challenges I faced in the research were finding the best sources that were accurate and consistent that went with my topic. Finding research that is interesting enough and is closely related to my topic was very frustrating at times. Choosing research that was appropriate to the point I am making in the report was a challenge also. The internet is full of sources but not all of them have the correct information that I am looking for, especially when it comes to research reports.
Interesting or unusual things that I have learned in the process of this research was discovering the different causes and factors that lead to substance abuse. I never realized that your family history can tie into addiction. Here are some signs and behaviors that may indicate your child or someone else you know is using drugs, chemicals, or alcohol:
• Changed attitude or success in school – Obtaining alcohol or other substances can affect the user’s attitude, behavior or success in school. They no longer have motivation or the ability to want to achieve good grades and want to do successful things for themselves.
• Withdrawal – As the drug wears off on the user, they may experience symptoms such as: Anxiety, jumpiness, trembling, sweating, nausea, fatigue, headaches, etc.
• Loss of appetite – Substance and Abuse can cause major effects on the weight of a user and it leads to irregular eating patterns and poor nutrition. Not only does it affect the weight, but also the internal organs of a person such as the liver or heart.
• Secrecy – A user will go out of their way in hiding the drugs or alcohol they are consuming as well as doing the drugs or alcohol at any given time in
