Suffering may teach us about ourselves and teach us to be better human beings but is also plays a vital role in bringing us closer to God (William, 2009). We humans have a unique tendency to believe in something to feel protected when we face circumstances in our lives that leave us vulnerable and these are the times when we feel draw to God the most (Williams, 2009). There are a lot of different things in our lives that prove the presence of God like, events that may have occurred, items that we may be in possession of and relationships that we are fortunate enough to have (Knox, 1999). Suffering not makes us reflect on our lives but makes us reflect on our faith, our faith in the creator and controller of everything that surrounds us. A question may be raised; that if God is the one to create and control everything why would he make a world where suffering occurs and evil is present? (William, 2009) The simple answer to such question is, free will. Man has the choice to choose the bad over the good, by which come the repercussions that is Suffering (Williams, 2009). God cannot be expected to intervene in sufferings that are because of free will as that will only lead to the expectations that God will also intervene in suffering like natural disasters that occur around the world and cause major disruptions and death of human life (William, 2009). Suffering is about learning about who we are a person and how do we wish to become. It fills a person with wisdom and humility. Without suffering we would not be able to appreciate all that we have been given by God. We would not be able to thrive as humans as we would not be able to distinguish between the rights and wrongs if we did not experience suffering. It will create a world where people care and love each other and no one wishes anyone else to suffer like they may have, suffering also makes a man sympathetic towards the ones who are suffering, Finally, suffering should not be seen as a punishment but as a blessing by God, without suffering we would not be able to appreciate all that is given to us.
