Banting is a high fat, low carbohydrate (LCHF) diet (Ketogenic Diet) that is named after William Banting. This diet has been made popular by Professor Tim Noakes and became the "nutrition hype" in South Africa in 2015. The aim of the diet is to break people's addictions to sugar, which they obtain from the carbohydrates, including fruit, that they consume. 2he was not wrong to give information via social media, as Twitter is an effective platform used to convey information quickly. He also states that the information he prescribed was not incorrect. Professor Noakes says he did not enter into a "doctor-patient relationship" and the information he tweeted to her was expected to be further researched before the mother simply weened her baby onto this diet. The factors that affected his perspective are education, experience, as well as his social status. Due to his education and research, he is able to motivate his perspective with his extensive knowledge in health and nutrition. Professor Noakes has himself experienced the effect of the Banting diet. Due to this his perspective is supportive of the diet, as he understands the mechanical and biological aspects and the benefits thereof. Education is the main factor influencing her perspective of "Banting for Babies", as her knowledge of nutrition relating to the human body is very comprehensive. Prof. Vorster laid a complaint regarding Prof. Noakes's tweet, as she believes that this diet is seen as a "remedy", rather than a lifestyle and therefore sees no reason for Prof. Noakes prescribing a healthy baby with this type of eating plan.
