The main figure of speech that is used throughout the whole poem would be repetition. From the first line to the last line almost all of them start with "Remember". This figure of speech tells us that the author is telling us to remember everything from the past, the present, and the future. The author used it, in the same way, he tells us it, he is using it to tell us to remember another figurative language used in the poem was personification. An example of a personification in the story would be when the author, Joy Harjo, says "Remember the moon, know who she is. I met her in a bar once in Iowa City." The reason it’s a personification is because they are talking about the moon as if she was a girl that someone met at a bar and a personification is when they talk about a person or personal feeling is used as a thing or an idea and in the story she uses the moon as a lady. Not everyone gets the meaning to the poem and what it says, it 's only the ones who take the time who take the time to read it carefully and truly understand the meaning.The ones that understand the meaning don 't always get the same meaning, that doesn 't mean they 're wrong though, it just means that someone got something else out of it than you did. The writer Joy Harjo was trying to say that you need to remember events from the past, the present, and the future. He doesn 't tell you right away in those certain words. With in the poem are the meanings and those meanings tell you what he 's trying say, that you should remember the past, the present, and the future. Another important meaning to this poem is what is symbolizes. The poem represents a number of symbols and each symbol has a meaning has a number of symbols depending on the person and what he gets from it, in meaning terms.
