It is true that the loss of life sorely exceeds the individual developments and inventions in technology; but as a whole, technology exceeded most expectations that occurred during the infancy of these advancements. Most of the technology created was meant to hurt one population or another, but it has impacted all of our lives in a positive way since. Possibly the worst time in the history of the world, we came through it with a better understanding and respect for all of humanity. Computer and internet access is now available with every cell phone, as well as many new cars that are run by computers or have internet access for mapping and navigation. Some computers aren’t as obvious, there are security cameras for the home and business, as well fire systems that can tell the difference between you burning dinner and an actual house fire.
Through the war, computers were primarily used for mathematics, science, and military defense. We will look at a brief timeline to show how quickly computer technology advanced.
1950s: The 1950s brought to life commercial computers that incorporated accounting and business processes. Although these machines were still mammoths like their predecessor, and very expensive, it changed the corporate world.
1960s: Moving into the 1960s, microprocessor and microchip advanced computer technology making it possible for computer’s to be made smaller and a little less expensive.
1970’s: In the 70s, the first personal computers were produced. They were still quite large in comparison to a carry-on, but this is where Apply II got its first notoriety, and is still one of the most popular computers
