We as Americans see the American dream as a life of luxury, becoming president or having more women’s rights. For immigrants, this isn’t exactly the case. Immigrants from all over the world believe that the overall “American Dream” consists of mainly two different things, freedom and equality. This is a big thing that draws immigrants to America. “Everyone is equal no matter what race, and should be treated equally”. George Takei, TED Talk. This quote tells us that no matter what race, ethnicity, or background you may come from, you should be treated no different than anyone else and …show more content…
This is, in both good and bad ways. America is easy to love and also easy to hate, most immigrants who come here, or want to, love America, despite the bad things about it. “Why I love a country that once betrayed me” George Takei, TED Talk. Even if America has things we don’t like or agree with, most immigrants believe that the freedom is all worth it, and it usually is. Compared to other countries, we are very lucky to have what we have as citizens of America. Most Immigrants know this and want to have what we have. “Young girl hustlin’ on the other side of the ocean”. Rihanna, American Oxygen. Immigrants work hard to come to America, which is usually worth it in the end to them. Some Immigrants want America’s freedom and rights just as much as every other American. America can only be as good as we make it. It can also be as bad as we make it. “Our democracy is a people’s democracy, and it can be as great as the people can be, but is also as fallible as people are”. George Takei, TED Talk. America’s greatness depends on how great the people are, it’s faults and failures also depend on the people. This quote says that America will be good and bad depending on people and the decisions they make. Even decisions that seem small or harmless, can have a major contribution to America, whether it’s good or bad. This is why America has some bad events in it’s background. So we need to realize what we have done in the past to better our future. As more immigrants come, we need to prove to them that the American Dream they have worked so hard for, still does exist and still does contribute to them. But we can’t have that if our country does not have what they see the American Dream as, freedom and equality. Because this is the idea if the American
