The American Dream begins with the ideas supported by the American constitution, which contains the values of this country. In the interview Richard Rodriguez explains how the dream “ began in the 19th century as immigrants mainly Irish and German began coming to the United States and describing their experience as transformative” (Interview by Jamilah King, 1). Americans started to look at their country as the place to make their dreams come true. A country with a lot of resources and a strong economy was perfect to achieve their goals. Native-born Americans adapted the dream to their conditions. In the article “What’s the American Dream, Kimberly Amadeo says “The American Dream started morphing into something less about opportunity to become the best you can be” (2). This happened because when the natives take over the dream the conditions changes and the dream reaches the more idealistic but less universal point.
