The American Revolution
What is The American Revolution you ask? The American Revolution is a time period when many changes and rebellion within the colonies against Great Britain were taking place. Another name you may have heard could be The American Revolutionary War. It was a war that lasted around eight years. The American Revolutionary war lasted from 1775 to 1783. This Revolution was caused by many different acts that made laws and also made taxes. Also it made many political ideas and revolutions all around the world. The first continental congress was when representatives from each colony except for Georgia met in Philadelphia to discuss their responses to the Intolerable acts. Also the battle of Lexington and Concord was the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. The Second Continental Congress made a big step towards independence and a big step in making the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence gave the thirteen colonies independence. Some of the key battles of the Revolutionary war include: Lexington and Concord, Ticonderoga, Bunker Hill, Saratoga, trenton, yorktown, Monmouth, and the Battle of Cowpens. First off the battles of Lexington and Concord were very important because it was the start of the war. Second the battle of ticonderoga was a key point of access to Canada and Hudson valley river. Also it was the first American victory of the war and it gave the Continental army much of the artillery that they would need throughout the rest of the battles. Then during the battle of Bunker Hill although it was a British victory it also gave the Americans important casualties that would help them throughout the war. Another …show more content…
The slaves and indians were two groups that had a major effect on the war. The slaves and indians fought for the patriots because they wanted to seek freedom, and even though the british promised the slaves freedom, if they would have been with the british they would have received no freedom. There were many different types of people that fought for the American Revolutionists or also known as patriots such as merchants, shoemakers, farmers and sailors. They all fought because the patriots needed anyone they could get to make their army bigger and stronger. But because of this their was a shortage of supplies such as clothing, tools , food and more. Since all of the men were at war that meant that the women and children would have to take the men 's roles while they were at
