The baby boom occurred after the great depression which caused a huge decline in birthrates and immigration rates, since the economy crashed and there was no jobs many Canadians we left hungry, jobless and or homeless. William Lyon Mackenzie King was the prime minister after the war till 1948 he devised a plan to help aid the families financially as more babies were being born. “With the stated intention of boosting the standard of living, Mackenzie King’s Liberals drew up the Family Allowance Act: When Canadian soldiers came home from Europe, they would receive an average of $5.83 per month for every child they added to the Baby Boom.”(Hooper, 2015). This may not seem like much but this was a big help for young families, this bonus influenced couples to have children knowing that money will still be coming in to support them. This act has led to more development into aiding families with babies in Canada currently we have the Canada child benefit which gives money to couples who have children, depending on income made in the household and number of children born will determine the amount of money given. For example a family with a net income of under twenty-one thousand will receive approximately $114 for one child in contrast to having four children which they will receive approximately $460. This meant proper housing had to be built and lead to companies being created to help pay mortgages and give out loans. Furthermore Canada was also changed because the baby boomers grew into their own culture introducing new ideas and a new way of living into light, they wore a new style of clothing and listen to different music compared to what their parents were accustomed to, this changed continued on to today inspiring new styles and all genres of music in Canada today. The baby boomers played a huge roll in the social and political shape of Canada today and without them we wouldn't be where we are at
