We learned that a larger amount of the world is affected by food insecurity than you would first initially believe and that food insecurity doesn 't necessarily mean that a family or household is hungry it can also mean that they are just malnourished. as statistics, have shown when families are forced to choose unhealthy cheap foods over the healthier organics it can lead to food insecurity as well. Also discussed was that prices on the world market can have an extreme domino effect on food insecurity within countries that don 't take the proper precautions to cushion themselves against a fluctuation in food prices. On the domestic level in the united states there are a plethora of programs and services used to combat food insecurity, but we also learned that these programs can cause a family to stagnate and become “comfortable” with the quality of life that these services provide. When the programs begin to cost too much because they become flooded by more and more individuals seeking aid. The programs must choose between closing down smaller programs to increase funding for larger ones, or to decrease the amount of services each program offers. This in turn leads to families that have been too reliant on these safety net programs to fall farther into food insecurity. It is a problem that not only the government can solve. Citizens need to strive to bring themselves above the poverty line and able to support themselves so that the families that are truly struggling and are in need of the safety net programs will have full access without the fear of their safety net
