Capitalism, the tension was building up between the Soviet Union and the United States, because of the fear of Communism happening and overpowering the countries. The U.S. feared that Communism would overpower Capitalism and take over the countries, and they didn’t want that to happen because they saw it as a threat. Both of the two countries; America and Russia, wanted to be the strongest, Soviet Union wanted a Communist world led by the Soviet Union themself, while America wanted capitalism to be the main system used in the world. The Marshall Plan was created by the United States to help Western Europe Countries restore their nations from the damages of World War II, but it was also created to help control the spread of Communism, by the U.S. doing this it helped control Communism in these areas, it reduced the spread of Communism. America didn’t want Communism because they feared it would take over the world, and over power capitalism, “Soviet leaders believed that communism would ultimately triumph in the world”(Garthoff), the United States didn’t want that to happen nor did they let it happen. Capitalism was used by a majority of the Western European countries and because of the Marshall Plan, it helped reduce the spread of Communism in the Western Europe countries by showing the support the U.S. does and how the U.S. helped aid them. Some believe the United States started the Cold War because of their need of containment and trying to keep communism from not spreading. “The Soviet Union strongly opposed the United States' involvement in European economic”(Riggs). The United States was strongly involved with many European countries just for the matter of helping aid but also stopping communism. The USSR opposed of the help of the U.S. “influence of capitalism would undermine the Soviet Union's European ambitions”(Riggs). Therefore, even though the US may have contributed a little to the Cold War, the USSR had more contribution with the expansion of communism to countries who didn’t want communism as a system
