These constructs consist of; perceived severity, perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits and perceived barriers. Additionally, there are two other constructs which include cues to action and self-efficacy. To begin with perceived severity, it is a person’s reflection or view of the impact that will be caused by a health condition. Essentially, the most severe impact is death which is followed by disablement and finally pain. As far as pain is concerned, the duration is of much importance. For instance, a sharp pain could be preferred than a long ache. Regardless of the fact that perceived severity is based on medical knowledge or information, it can be derived from personal beliefs on the difficulties of a particular disease and the resultant effects on his or her …show more content…
Despite the application of these constructs in achieving the objective of the study, to some extent, the constructs failed to give expansive knowledge on the various ways in which they were utilized. Furthermore, the study failed to indicate the criteria deployed in selecting and assigning various tasks to the participants.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Health Belief Model effectively explains and gives an understanding which can be applied in predicting health behavior. Through the model, healthcare practitioners can be in a position of understanding why individuals fail to take preventive health measures. Even though the model has got its shortcomings, the prevalent advantages are more than the shortcomings. It is therefore important for the model to be incorporated in the ultimate delivery of care and derivation of effective interventions that are mostly based on human
