• Nature is a symbol of guidance, conveying messages and advice to those who want it. o “[T]he sky speaks to those who look and listen to it . . . [and in it] there are always answers and explanations for everything” (Beah 166). When he was a child, Beah’s grandmother told him that • Components of nature react and reflect to the events Beah witnesses and experiences o As Beah and the other boys discuss the atrocities they suffered before they met, “[t]he moon hid behind clouds to avoid seeing what was happening” (80) …
Søren Kierkegaard, a 19th century a philosopher, once said, “God…does what is still more wonderful: he makes saints out of sinners.” While Richard J. Mouw, in his book When the Kings Come Marching In, would agree that God redeems sinners he would also argue that God desires to redeem the entire cosmos. God desires to redeem both human souls and the cosmos because both have been infected and distorted by sin. After a careful reading of Mouw’s book, it is possible to piece together a summary of the main points of the book while formulating a response to Mouw’s explanations and his life application. When the Kings Come Marching…
In "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathan Edwards, Edwards preaches this sermon to prompt his listeners to strengthen their faith in God, by exercising imagery, figurative language, and repetition. In the first place, Edwards utilization of imagery administers the listeners with visualizations of how God rewards the followers for preserving their faith. Edwards conveys, "it is only the power and mere pleasure of God that holds you up. " This exercise allows the listeners to envision how God, an almighty figure, supports people who give their time for God.…
The Eighth Day is a book in the non-fiction historical genre, with 30,628 words that is my first effort as an author. When I was 18 years old, I became motivated to research the origin of Christianity and later, the origin of creation. I'm a retired businessman and have decided to share what I have learned over the past 50 years, through this book. The purpose of The Eighth Day is to reveal validated proof that the creation story of the Old Testament, in the book of Genesis, is irrefutably true. The relevance of the proof, is that the teller of the creation story would have had to be there to describe the occurrences, in such detail.…
In the novel, Storms over Genesis by William Jennings portrays numerous theories that appeal to all types of theorist based on the Bible. The novel analyzes the Bible’s content as well as ideas from the bible. It also relates the Bible to present day society and events. Phyllis Wright, a sixth grade student, asks Albert Einstein if scientists prayed if so what for. Einstein replies in an appropriate manner for the subject and his audience, while appealing to logos, ethos, and pathos. Although Einstein’s letter does not directly answer Phyllis’s question, it is still rhetorically effective. Einstein appeals to logos when discussing the nature of scientific research. He addresses the counter argument in saying that “scientific research is based on the idea that everything that takes place is determined by the laws of nature, and therefore this holds for the actions of people.”…
One of the first questions that we asked Dr. Henson was whether she believed in the presence of a conflict between science and religion. Her response was in accordance to some of the things that Timothy Larson mentioned in his article. According to Henson, she did not believe that there was any conflict between science and faith. Instead, Dr. Henson said that she believed in apparent paradoxes/contradictions which are things that appear to look conflicting but are not really in conflict with each other. The next question that we asked Dr. Henson about was related to the state of the earth in the antediluvian world (before the fall).…
The History of our World in 18 minutes by David Christian is a fascinating talk to anyone out there. I was looking for something with relevance to science and I came across this video on Youtube. It is an interesting topic that many with religious views could just pass because of their beliefs. Although many people believe that the world was created in a religious way, I believe that this TED talk could be important and that The Big History will show you the complexity of our planet. David Christian’s purpose for this talk is to educate children and future generations to come.…
When it comes to interpreting the Bible, the word “inerrant” has been misused in such a way that has led people to overlook the message intended by God. The mistreatment of this word has brought about attempts to study the Bible as if it were a book of history, science, or philosophy. The sermon combats these misapplications by reminding its audience of the proper use of God’s word, the importance of its divine message, and its claims concerning its own inerrancy. The sermon resonates with me because it reminds me of the pertinence of God’s word and how important it is to use it with the utmost care. I believe that Mercer’s theological faculty strives to take a stance on inspiration that treats the Bible with this same kind of reverence.…
The Impact that has been made City of Praise; my church, my home, and my hospital. City of praise has impacted my life tremendously, and I can honestly say that I've enjoyed every bit of it. Growing up in the church was a normal thing for me since I was basically "born and raised in the pew" but for me to actually start living a truly Christian life was the task at hand for me. Years went by with our apostle Dr. Walter Boston and I always wondered "why?" Why did I have to come to church?…

Middle Ages In Jerusalem The Hollywood film Kingdom of Heaven, is based on events that took place in the Middle Ages, or the 12th century. The movie is about the Crusades, which was a series of battles between the Christians and the Muslims. They were fighting over the city of Jerusalem, for many reasons. One these reasons they were fighting was because it was a very religious city, which allowed them to practice their religion freely.…
While there are a plethora of beliefs about how creation of the world came to be; there is no doubt that its creation reflects a part of the image of God. In this paper I will argue according to Athanasius, both salvation and creation represent the duality of the divine and human within Jesus Christ. One of the first arguments that Athanasius makes to prove this is to link Jesus to the creation of the world. The first step of this process is to first discredit the other beliefs about how the world came to be from the Epicureans, Plato, and the Gnostics. For Athanasius this is a crucial step as it establishes the foundation to the dual nature of christ.…
