The agricultural industry has has a huge affect on people and has for hundreds of years. This industry doesn 't just affects humans it also affects animals and the environment. McCormick’s Reaper is a convenient symbol of how the improved machinery of the industrial revolution contributed to changes in other areas of American life. Even the smallest events or inventions have made the biggest impact on humans lives although they may not realize it. There are negative sides to industrial agriculture, one being disease. Foodborne Diseases are rampant in developing countries, and experts believe that the trend toward factory farming of animals is the leading cause. Factory farming may be cheaper and a little more efficient but it is affecting people and the environment largely. Humans desire for cheap meat that has led to mass production of animals in crowded, stressful conditions. The conditions serve as incubators for new diseases, such as swine and avian flu, and are the price that society will pay for the abuse to animals and nature. Commercial agriculture still is is the backbone of the economy in rural areas and will be needed to feed the world in the future. Humanity must farm for the purpose of feeding people. Such a system would focus on crop; devote the best land on fruits and vegetables; let livestock such as cattle and sheep graze in areas where crops can 't; and feed pigs and poultry leftovers. With the world 's population at six billion and heading higher, there is no practical alternative to industrial agriculture. The unregulated excesses of the U.S. industrial farming and confined animal production have created profound health and safety problems, caused pollution, and have contributed to global warming, all while using using too using too much energy. The United States must regulate the industry and encourage a switch from conventional to organic methods of agriculture.
