According to research done by Xiong, et al 2013, immunizations are rarely done and when they are, most Hmong do not get the all three immunizations (Xiong, M., et al., 2013). There are also huge gaps in education about Hep B. Most of the Hmong people in this research reported they did not think Hep B could be prevented and few had never heard of Hep B. There is also huge gaps in the education about they way Hep B is spread. Although most knew, that Hep B was spread person to person many did not know how it was spread and that it could be spread by a person who was asymptomatic. This assessment will tell the nurse where the family is developmentally and what are the barriers to education. The nurse needs to use these tools and ask questions about the culture. By not assuming anything about the culture, the nurse builds trust (Minority Nursing 2013).
