She also let herself bring her phone on one of the cardio machines that way she could watch a Netflix movie during her workout. That also helped to make the time go faster. If the participant did not exercise at all during the day, she did not watch television or Netflix. Over the next 4 weeks while the participant was collecting data, she noticed an improvement on how many days she exercised compared to her baseline and first treatment plan data. Being able to watch Netflix during her cardio workout or being able to watch a television show or Netflix on a day that she exercised at least 15 minutes was more of an immediate reinforcer that rewarded her sooner for exercising, which seemed to be the key item that she needed to work out more. She had mentioned that she was always a person who liked praise and being noticed for doing something, so Netflix served as praise for exercising. During the baseline data phase, the participant had 39 days of data and an average of 12.18 minutes of exercise. This was not much time spent exercising, but it was more than before the baseline data started. Recording the day and how many minutes she spent exercising made the participant more aware of how little she was exercising and she wanted an improvement.
During the treatment 1 data phase, the participant had 14 days of data and an average 8.57 minutes of exercise. This was even less time spent exercising than during the baseline phase, so a modified second treatment plan was implemented.
During the treatment 2 data phase, the participant had 24 days of data and an average of 18.75 minutes of exercise. This was a huge improvement from the baseline and treatment 1 phases.
Discussion
The participant was a 21-year-old college student who used behavior modification techniques to track her daily exercise, which was currently in a deficit in hopes for an improvement to her health and
