There have been many laws and policies set through the years that have affected and helped shape the healthcare system we have today. Some examples of influential polices set in place include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act HIPAA, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act ARRA, and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. One of the most influential laws for health information and the protection of privacy is that of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (1996) designed to protect the privacy, confidentiality and security of patient information.
