I chose this for standard because many children enter preschool with some or little knowledge of numbers and counting. They can count five to ten objects accurately and can also read some numbers, but many other children have not developed this knowledge that’s why I felt it was important to teach them. Children in particular need many opportunities to learn how to count things, and to learn to read and write numbers. A small number of three year olds may still be hard for a child to accurately figure out how to accurately determine the number of items in a collection of up to five items using one-to-one counting. Curriculum standards for young children are changing so quickly that I feel it’s vital for young children to learn to count to numbers as high as twenty, I feel this is a vital part of their development …show more content…
The children saw themselves as early educators and other community leaders they began to dress up in costumes and pretend as though they were different community leaders as well as teachers and were talking to me like I was the student showing me how to count some of the students joked about sitting me in the corner if I didn’t answer their question right. The children saw themselves as unique and special. They described counting the soldiers in the jar as fun and entertaining and by the end of the lesson the children were having fun teaching each other to count. I was so excited to see the children learning in a fun and loving conducive environment the children were practically counting everything in the room once the activity
