After evaluating the meal plan, it is evident there is a lot of eating of junk food known as saturated and trans fats which raises total blood cholesterol levels and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) resulting …show more content…
For competition athletes who train as equally as hard nutrition can be the edge over other competitors (Cross, 2005). Appendix 3 shows a revised high protein and carbohydrate weekly meal plan that will provide a base for Dishen to cope and recover from the intense training sessions. Carbohydrates act as a main energy source (Bean, 2013) for muscular contractions and during exercise if muscle glycogen levels are low it can cause fatigue affecting sports performance. Miller (2003) states muscle glycogen levels deplete during high intensity exercise. As well as this, encouraging Dishen to include more protein approximately between 1.5-2 g/kg per day (Ranchordas, Dawson and Russell, 2017) will help to repair and build muscles (Bean, 2013). Building and repairing muscles will help prepare Dishen to cope with the high intensity activities and weight training implemented within the training sessions to improve muscular …show more content…
The research showed when dehydrated, bowlers speed reduced by 1.0 ± 0.8% and bowling accuracy reduced by 19.8 ± 17.3%, suggesting they were less accurate resulting in a decrease in performance. For an elite athlete who are in a results business (Cross, 2005), this can become a factor upon whether your team win or lose. Dehydration can also influence reaction time. The less hydrated the performer is the lower the reaction time (Bonci and Bonci, 2009). For a cricket performer, this is crucial as your reactions will be tested throughout the game especially when batting and fielding. Failing to react to a cricket ball can ultimately lead to devastating injuries with one of the worst-case scenarios happening on November 25th. Whilst batting Australian cricketer Phil Hughes was hit on the top of his neck after failing to react to a delivery from fellow Australian team mate Sean Abbot and died two days later aged 25 from a brain
