You should always start out giving your speech by maintaining a solid eye contact with your audience. You don’t want to appear to keep looking at your material stumbling around, because the audience will form a negative opinion. You want to make sure that you always try to remain friendly with them; they will become more comfortable with you if you are smiling rather than frowning the whole speech. Just be relaxed and pay attention to how your audience is receiving your information and make adjustment with humor or body movements to keep their attention. You just don’t want to look like a stiff robot up there presenting. I believe that my non-verbal delivery has improved some, but still needs work. I have a lot of energy towards my audience when I’m speaking and also in real world. I just seem to get flustered when I start a speech and forget to move around more. Speech apprehension was certainly present whether I presented in front of an audience or when I was without one recording myself. It wasn’t terrible, but there was defiantly anxiety present. I believe that everyone has some type of anxiety when it comes to getting up in front of a group of people and having to speak. You feel some sense of self-consciousness and can’t help but to think that you might not get the information correct. When you don’t prepare for a speech, you can see this problem is more present than if you had spent more time on preparing. I did notice a difference between the anxiety when I was before an audience and then when I was alone. I feel I was more concerned with not remembering the material when I was in front of people, because there isn’t room for mistakes. When you are alone you can start over and it wouldn’t matter. I can say that by my last speech I was much more comfortable in front of the audience, being I had already done it once in front of friends and family I was able to train myself to be less nervous and more serious in a way. I found it difficult the first time in front of my friends, because I felt like it wasn’t as serious and I wanted to
