Disney is going to buy Pixar Animation Studios and Marvel Entertainment Inc. This acquisition has create a controversy among the fans of the company and the public. Disney bought Pixar Animation Studio for US$ 7.4 billion and Marvel Entertainment for US$ 4 billion. The merge of these company is the business strategy for the world largest entertainment empire, Disneyland to widen their business market in the world. As a result Disney bring the feeling of family friendly to everyone, including employees within their organization. However, this culture is totally different from Pixar, especially Marvel which portray and demonstrate violent and elegant style of feeling to the public. It will disappear as the time moving but it can only to be minimized in the beginning of the changes. There are six strategies in minimizing the resistance to change in culture, which includes communication, learning, employee involvement, stress management, negotiation and coercion.
Communication is the most direct way of emphasizing the employees in reducing the resistance to change. Disney should having an effective and efficient communication with the employees of Pixar and Marvel in order to reduce their fear of unknown. By having a good communication, employees is able to understand the vision of the organization better. Consequently, a better understanding in vision will lead them to improve their job performance.
The second strategy in reducing resistance to change is through learning. Employees have to learn new skill and knowledge continuously to fits the organization’s evolving requirements. Learning is not only to help employees to catch up with the change in their organization, but to develop a stronger self-efficiency in making them perform better. For example, employees of Pixar and Marvel has to learn the new culture and the way of working in Disney so they are able to work more effectively.
