Men and women have the right to do their job without the need or want of sexual desires from another person. Any unwanted text messages, emails, gestures, and/or comments are prohibited especially if it interferes with the person’s ability to perform their job functions. A person who refuses those sexual harassment desires cannot be denied the right to a promotion, raise, or fired due to refusing to engage in sexual activity. Just like I mentioned before if a person hires a woman and the company does not have many then temptations can arise. The same thing goes if the role was reversed and there was a new man hired into a facility where mostly women worked. The first thing to do is provide evidence that you are being discriminated against. If you are planning to take the case to court it will be your word against theirs. Without a sufficient amount of evidence it could be really hard to prove that you were fired, receive lower pay, and etc. because of your sex. If you can prove your side of the story and the court rules in your favor it would be because your rights have been violated. There are many laws that have taken place over time that helped people against being discriminated against especially in the workplace. Even though it still happens there are things that they can argue to help their case. The Civil Rights Act protects people’s rights, the Equal Pay Act helped women and men doing the same work with the same skills get the same pay, and even the Medical Leave Act which gave men and women the same amount of time off for a family member in critical condition or for childbirth without being fired for having too many days off. It is illegal for businesses to make certain benefits available for one sex and not the other.
