Picture yourself in the middle of a busy street where you hear the chattering of the locals in their native tongue. The rich smell of famous Korean food, like bulgogi, the steak siring on the grill and the aroma is so enticing it makes you hungry. With busy streets and technology surrounding you, your initial thought is this is complete madness, but just like everything else, there is a meaning and a purpose to that madness. From power generation to the city streets, South Korea is a well-oiled machine “Over the First 20 years of the 21st century, the government will spend more than US$300 billion on airports, roads, railways, and mega- resorts” according to (Peimani, 2001). That means better transportation all the way around, better transportation means citizens can evacuate faster, or travel from one side of the country to the other. Perhaps from the north, to the south, that is if North Korea were to ever attack. Not only are the South Koreans spending money on their roads, they are also bringing in money in to their economy by adding “mega-resorts” (Peimani, 2001). With extra-added buildings used as safe havens for their citizens, South Koreans protection will be at the top of their list. With new technology, and more resources needed, South Korea looks to spend “US$60 billion on the construction of more than 100 new power-generation facilities” (Peimani, 2001). The South Korean military or the (ROK) has a tough and acreages job to uphold. With the surrounding bodies of water, the ROK must keep their shores at peace. According to (Lee, 2013) the “expansion of the ROK Navy with anti-piracy campaigns in the Gulf of Aden and the blue-water navy warships”. South Korea is always evolving and using their up to date, most advanced telecommunication system to collect data from the surrounding countries. This allows the ROK to become a great national and regional Military, too not only protect their coast from unwanted intruders, but too protecting their skies. With the contribution of Patriot Missiles from the United State, South Korea shielded from frequent ballistic missile threats coming from the North. Along with having Patriot within their borders, South Korea also has Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) to assist with any significant threat. Numerous American soldiers who are ready to assist, from Army Infantry, armored divisions and logistics, the backing of the United States is key for the South Koreas success.
