The most difficult steps in the listening process is attending which is the process of ready to receive information. ‘Don’t begin a conversation if you’re not 100 percent ready to listen to the other person.’ (Wood, 2010, pp.147) As mentioned above, people often misunderstand the difference between listening and hearing. You can easily hear the sounds but it takes energy to wilfully perceiving information. This is a difficult task to do as ‘the ability to comprehend words more than five times faster than the speaker can talk allows our mind to wander.’ (Lussier & Hendon, 2013) According to Hayes and Ninemeier, hospitality is the people oriented business. (2009, pp.1) Which means that hospitality employees always have to deal with people, not only customers but also their co-workers. Therefore, they needs to show that they care about the guests’ problem, that “I’m here for you” attitude, and are ready to get the problems fixed for the guests to have an enjoyable stay. Besides, they have to show their respect towards their co-workers and managers that they want to learn to perform better. For example, if you are new to the workplace and you are being trained, but you do not show that you are not perceiving what your trainer is teaching even though that you are hearing them, you are not paying attention to what is being said. That person may think that you are disrespectful towards them and you are likely to disrupt the relationship with that person and may getting fired afterwards because you show that you do not really want to
