We start off with piagets theory and this states that they are 4 stages of this theory sensorimotor which lasts from birth to 2 years, the second stage is preoperational which happens between the ages of 2-7, the 3rd stage is concrete operational from 7 years to 12 years and finally the 4th stage is formal operational from 12 years on, at this stage the adolescent develops his intelligence and uses it for thinking, solving abstract problems. They develop themselves at this stage so that they can solve problems.(piaget theory). Identity is seen as huge part of the adolescent lifestyle these days as most adolescent want to be noticed. James Marcia came up with the identity status. It is split up into 4 areas, foreclosure, diffusion, moratorium and achievement. Identity foreclosure is when you decide that you want a short adolescent lifespan, that you want to have a job or have kids or get married in your adolescent stage, basically you skip the adolescent stage and go straight to adulthood. Identity diffusion is the next stage, this stage involves you to follow a group, that you cant be without them you depend on them, this is not helping your development it hinders it. The 3rd stage is identity moratorium at this stage adolescents are confused, they don’t know where there going or what there doing, their in a crisis and as I like to call it a rebellion stage. The 4th and final stage is identity achievement, at this level adolescent s are committed they want to do well and go on to bigger and better things. (K.Cahill, james Marcia
