One of the largest reasons Anne Frank is so widely recognized today is because, as Thomas Heppener from the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam had said, "It's an individual fate that gave this horrible number of murdered people a face. That has made Anne Frank a symbol.” Anne is the person behind the history, she represents a real life that has gone through this time of anti-Semitism and has left her story for us to learn from. Anne’s Diary is seen as a symbol of all Jewish people of that time, as she wrote, “I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too. I feel the suffering of millions” (237). This conveys the emotional turmoil of countless Jewish families who also went into hiding during World War two. As Ballweg had said, “Diary of Anne Frank lifted the young girl from the anonymous mass of victims and turned her into the face of the Holocaust.” Anne’s diary is a valuable piece of historical documentation as well as it expresses her hopes and dreams for the future. Dreams which were never realized, just like millions of other Jewish people at the time, because of the tragic events that occurred during the second World
