Is gun control really helping the U.S.? For many years, gun control has been a debatable topic. Many say that gun control reduces fewer murder crimes that are committed. Studies have proven that in an area with more gun control laws, more crimes are likely to occur.…
Many countries that have out lawed guns for the most part experience 0,1,2,3 shootings a year. We are one of the only countries who experience the phenomenon of Mass Mass shootings and it’s because as a society, social morals and caring about others beside yourself only apply to people ion your direct circle rather than your fellow…
In an article by Chris Weller, the U.K., a country akin to America, "passed legislation banning private ownership of hand guns, . . . semiautomatic and pump action firearms throughout the U.K.". The result is that of "50 to 60 gun deaths in England and Whales, which have an estimated population of 56 million" compared to the U.S. which has "more than 160 times as many gun related homicides" (Weller). This dramatic spike between the U.S. and the U.K., as alike as they are, is directly related to the access to guns. While guns are not entirely banned in the U.K., simply decreasing the number of semiautomatic weapons and guns in general has drastically lessened the amount of gun deaths and mass shootings.…
A Target Worth Aiming At With an average of 4.3 million firearms being added to the United States each year, gun control is one of the most rapidly growing problems in our nation. The right to bear arms was the 2nd amendment in our Constitution; so obviously to our forefathers this has been a very important ideal since the beginning of our nation. Without implementing some sort of law in the coming years, all citizens will soon be in danger. According to the National Institute of Justice, approximately 414,562 firearm incidents occurred in 2011.…
The United States authorities do not keep up with regular folks allowed to have, gain, convey, offer or exchange a gun or ammo. Great Britain has probably the most stringent gun control laws on the planet. Handguns are disallowed weapons and require special permission. Self-defense, self-protection or a simple wish to possess a weapon is not viewed a valid or justifiable reason to have certain weapons. The United States has the most elevated firearm related wrongdoing rate in comparison to other nations such as the United…
However, anti-gun control supporters believe that by looking into current laws, they can see that when gun laws became stricter as in cities like Chicago, Illinois, gun violence got worse. Equally important is the fact that countries with the strictest gun-control laws tend to have the highest homicide rates. In fact, according to the United Nations, as of 2005, Scotland (who have some of the strictest gun control laws in the world) was the most violent country in the developed world, with people three times more likely to be assaulted than in America. (Gun, 2015) Violent crimes there have doubled over the last twenty years.…
Japans gun death rate in 2016 was 0.04. In Canada, which has the next highest gun homicide rate at 15% per 100,000 people, all gun owners must complete a background check and take a safety course. Handguns, semiautomatics and most non-hunting guns are heavily restricted. Potential gun owners need to obtain a federal registration certificate to own a gun. Compare these laws to the ones here in the U.S. and there is a big difference.…
One example Russia, the murder rate in Russia is higher than that of the United States. While in the other hand, many nations in Europe which do not have gun laws are placed in the top ten list with the lowest crime rates in the world. Switzerland being the country with the lowest murder rate, has 216 police officers per 100,000 citizens making them the definition of safe-living truly. This proves that gun ownership instead of increasing crimes, actually reduces crime rates by the…
Their annual rate of gun suicide is at .15 per 100,000 people, compared to the US’s 6.3 (Gunpolicy.org). This clearly shows that the UK and the US have very different views on gun control with very different consequences. Japan provides an example almost ludicrous to think about in the US. Max Fisher, a former editor and author at The Atlantic presents the shocking facts about Japan’s gun control and the effects. In 2008 Japan had all of 11 deaths from guns, while the US had over 12,000.…
With less than 5 percent of the world’s population, the United States holds about 35- 50 percent of the world’s civilian owned guns (Masters, 2016). In reviewing America’s history, this statistic may not seem so striking since guns have always played a major role in society. However, due to the recent events regarding gun violence and an increase in terrorism, the topic of gun control has become problematic for American. When discussing gun control there are mainly two views.…

62% of the 31,000 deaths caused by a gun are suicides (Cornell 2). According to Arthur L. Kellerman, MD, “residents of homes where a gun is present are 5 times more likely to experience a suicide than residents of homes without guns” (A Case for Gun Control). I have experienced the effects of suicide within my own family. One month ago, my cousin Marisa committed suicide. She was 26 years old and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years prior to the tragic incident.…
