The Intelligence Cycle
Intelligence is defined as information that has been examined so that is useful to the policy makers and the decisions about potential threats to the United States of America. The Intelligence Cycle however, is the process the Intelligence is made,acquired, and accessible to others. To overcome on how America was looking as an easy and accessible target, Patrick Duecy in the year of 2006 recommended that those involve to relay heavily on the Intelligence cycle. This is where priorities, responsibilities and requirements are set. During this step the emergency management team defines which areas the intelligence cycle needs to be constructed will have the most effect and make the most offering reward when dealing with terrorism. Throughout this planning and the direction stage it is very important to basically determine what information needs to be accumulated for usage. In inclusion to the processes, people, and technology that is in place that subsidize the different steps in the cycle need to be setup with an understanding of the roles and duties of each person. During this time training will also take place to prepare. The training can be in an any special skills that they can think of such as training in languages, marksmanship, or combat. In this stage of the Intelligence cycle the information is gathered secretly without terrorist, potential terrorists, or others knowing. However some of the information that is gathered is not done in a secretive way all the time. In some cases the terrorist or potential terrorist may know exactly what is going on and know that they are being watched or recorded but for hard to believe still do not care. Activities are completed during the collection process such as interviews, technical surveillance, and physical surveillance. These activities also include human source operation, searches, and liaison relationships. This step results in the collection of intelligence. Newspapers and articles are also a great tool used in the collection process. Sometimes listening devices and hidden cameras help in the aid of being able to collect information. The listening devices help to be able to listen to conversations of terrorist or potential terrorist and the hidden cameras help track the movement of terrorist or potential terror attacks. The third step of the Intelligence cycle is processing. During this step the information that has been collected is compared and looked at closer to to see how it all fits together or connect to each other; sort of like putting a puzzle together. They do this with all of the information from sources they have found or received. This is accomplished through information management.
