She told me that one of the things that she miss a lot is when her, her parents and her siblings went to swim in the hotel’s pool or albercas, and in the river. Also, when they were playing after school in the streets of their neighborhood. There was not fear to play with friends outside the houses in the streets. This is because everybody knew everybody. She miss a lot her parents that still living in Chihuahua. Other memories were during holidays for instance, Mother’s day, Christmas, September of 16th Mexico Independence Day, November the 20th celebration of the Mexican Revolution that was the end of the Porfiriato which she explains was a political maneuver.
I asked her about the 5 de Mayo, about the El Dia de Los Muertos. Maria Luisa told me that they don’t celebrate the 5th of May because it refers to a small battle that Mexico wan against the French. The only reason for the Mexican victory was because it was raining that day. This is the reason by which this is a holiday. The Day of the Death is not celebrated in the North because is an indigenous celebration from the center and southern Mexico. These are beautiful memories that remains in Maria Luisa mind after she immigrated to the United
