Internationally, 40 million children are subjected to child abuse each year. Ark Hope for Children states that in the US alone, every 10 seconds a child is abused or raped, 3.3 million child abuse reports were made in 2010, for every report, two more go unreported which means that more children are abused annually than we know of, 61,000 reports to CPS per week which means about 6 per minute are made (Ark). This shows that it’s not a small issue. Ark also stated that of the 1.5 million runaway, 85% are fleeing from some form of abuse, only 10% of kids abused did NOT know their abuser. This shows that most of the abuse happens within homes, with people the children are supposed to trust. It’s also not specific to gender or race. About 48% of victims are male, and 52% are female and every race and religion sees child abuse (Ark). Within one school, you could probably see 100 cases because 1 in 10 children suffer from child maltreatment, 1 in 16 children suffer from sexual abuse, and 1 in 10 children are a witness for family
