H2O is the water molecule and is joined by covalent bonds. It is dipolar due to the bonding because the oxygen atom is slightly negatively charged while the hydrogen atoms are slightly positively charged. This polarity of water allows it to bond with other water molecules through hydrogen bonds. These hydrogen bonds are weak but in water there are so many of them that you actually require lots of energy to separate them.
This is why we say water has a high specific heat capacity. It means that water can absorb large amounts of heat before it starts to increase its temperature and vice versa. This helps keeps temperature in the cells constant which is why we maintain our body temperature. This also means that water has a high heat of vaporization i.e. when sweat evaporates it cools us down and helps us maintain a constant body temperature.
If you didn’t know the obvious already, water is a solvent. All chemical reactions in …show more content…
Well we already have mentioned a few while describing waters many properties but still; we will talk about it on a global scale! So, you have agriculture which is everything to do with farming and crops and irrigation so we can feed ourselves. You also have Domestic usage which is how we use water at our homes and clean ourselves i.e. showering, laundry. We also use it in many industries as a coolant. We also do this cool thing where we make hydroelectric power from dams and this is a renewable resource so therefore water helps save resources in our planet. Best of all, we get to use water for recreation and leisure! How can you still not love water for that? Surfing, sailing and water planes are the least of what you could do. All this thanks to the properties of water with a neutral pH of 7 making it just the
