The President was briefed on where important legislation is in the congressional process. As chief legislator, the president shapes policy. The President is gathering information that he can later use to influence Congress to pass certain pieces of legislation. The President also acted as chief citizen and chief of state. As chief citizen, the President should represent all of the people of the United States. Citizens expect the President to work for their interests and provide leadership. On this day, President Obama signed replies to ten letters sent from Americans to the White House. Reading and answering the letters keeps the President aware of the concerns of everyday American people. The President taking a trip across town to talk about hurricane preparedness also allowed for the President to educate the American people on an important issue, and to concentrate directly on an issue that affects Americans. The President also participated in a public function in the East Room to discuss protecting the nation’s computer networks from attack. The President is acting as chief citizen because he is directly focusing on an issue that affects the greater nation.
