The United State Democracy is seen by other countries as successful, but what creates problems is the western culture rooted in the U.S. Democracy. Some countries have a more patriarchal standpoint when it comes to everyday life. The males in these countries have more power when compared to the power women hold. These different viewpoints would lead to variations in how democracy would work. The word democracy translates to “rule by the people” or “power lies within people (Perry).” To have only one gender or certain group of people with the ability to cast a vote for a “president” or for those individuals to make political decisions, would go against the main concept of democracy. In the United States of America, everyone is considered equal when it comes to democracy no matter the race, gender, socioeconomic status, and age (even though you have to be eighteen to vote for the president). Being able to tailor democracy to fit the country and still remain a democracy is difficult, but generational change is one factor that can help a country conform to the ways of democracy (Payne 103). Leaders of non-democratic countries began to die out leaving the next generation to decide the fate of political views.
