The empire had a formidable army and navy and were able to conquer large amount of lands due to it. Using this strong army the Ottomans were able to control trade routes such as the Silk Road and the Indies spice route. The strong navy was used to conquer cities along the water such as Constantinople and others in the Black Sea area. The Ottomans also had a complex culture like China. They had an official faith, Islam, and an official language, Turkish. This culture was spread over a territory bigger than the Holy Roman Empire. Turkish cities were advanced. They had street light and a draining systems. Some even had libraries and universities. With their knowledge, the Ottoman Turks advanced in fields such as cartography, medicine, and many others in science and industry category. Europe was always separated due to geography and was never , despite the efforts of the Romans, united as one. This allowed it become politically diverse and difficult to conquer. With rugged mountains and dense forests, it was a struggle for even the powerfuls Roman or and possibly the Mongols to unite. Also this caused a decentralized government within Europe, and many small kingdoms to form, rather than one empire. Including politics and warfare, geography also affected trade. With different geography comes a different climate, and with different climate comes a different products to sell. As their products became more diverse, Europe expanded their trade. This gained new trading partners, more revenue, and consequently more power within the European nations. Trade also played a part in military advantage of Europe. For example, if Italy made new cannons then they would sell it to any country who had the money to buy it rather than hoarding it all to themselves. This allowed each country to stay on them same level when it comes to warfare. Technological advancements were also spread this way. If one country discovered something new, then it spread to another country. This made sure sure no country fell behind. The European Miracle was a very important time in history in which Europe asserted it dominance as the superior world
