What is HPV? HPV is short for human papillomavirus and is a group of more than 100 related viruses. Each HPV virus is assigned a number which is called HPV type. HPV is a name for warts. Some HPV can cause cancer. There are more than 40 HPV types that can infect the genital area of male and females. But there are some vaccines that can prevent infections with the most common types of HPV.
HPV can be transmitted through intimate skin to skin contact. You can also get HPV by having vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who already has the virus. The doctor would be the first to know, because her Pap smear test results would appear as
