When the Spaniards first arrived to Tenochtitlan, the Aztecs economy came from the well-organized market, crops from chinampas, and the trading from neighboring tribes where the Indigenous people worked in a great respectful environment. That was all taken away when the Spaniards changed the way Indians worked that they saw suited them best. Silver Mining was an important contributor to the Spaniard economy as well as the trading taking place between New Spain and Spain. Many individual Spaniards grew powerful and their land and money grew as well. Poor working conditions for the Indians caused much pain and disparity that led to a decrease in the Indian population due to the Indians dying at a rapid pace. As the Indigenous people were affected greatly with the amount of work being given to them and not enough Indians to complete the work, the Criollo Society grew rapidly in New Spain. A Criollo, a person of Spanish origin who is born in New Spain, had many new opportunities than the Indigenous people or the Peninsulares, who were Spaniards that migrated from the native land of Spain. It was said that Spain and France were allies but that soon all changed when the French Army took over Spain and Charles IV, current King at that time, not declaring war against the French as soon as he realized what was going on. Seeing the state of war Spain and its army were in, the people of Mexico saw this as an opportunity to gain its Independence from Spain. With Miguel Hidalgo and his plan in taking down the Spaniard Army in New Spain, that was leaked and informed to the Spaniard, did not stop Hidalgo and his army or men to fight for their freedom. On September 16, 1810, Hidalgo did the Grito de Dolores, which was the Grito de Independencia that Mexico became a free country and began the war of Independence from Spain that they successfully won. The independence movement was a radical change in Mexico that was both a good and bad thing. Being free from Spain’s control and allowing people to live as they did before the Spaniards invaded but the one change that was not good was that even though they were free from Spain’s control, they would soon end up in a monarchy government
