Pain relievers are also a form of “opioids [which] can cause euphoria and are often used nonmedically, leading to overdose deaths” (National Institute of Drug Abuse, 2015). Codeine can also be called Captain Cody which would be injected or swallowed if being used illegally. Hydrocodone or vike would be snorted, injected, or swallowed. Morphine or Miss White could be smoked, swallowed, or injected for an individual to get a high of it. These are just a few of the narcotics that could be prescribed for pain and that could be sold on the street. This is what turns them into nonmedical use narcotics. The short term of these are “pain relief, drowsiness, nausea, constipation, euphoria, confusion, slowed breathing, [and] death” (National Institute of Drug Abuse, 2015). The withdraw of narcotics is harsh as it contains “restlessness, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, diarrhea, vomiting, cold flashes with goose flesh bumps, (‘cold turkey”) leg movements” (National Institute of Drug Abuse, 2015).
