If I were to pursue a career in the adolescence, I think I would be good. I have to patience to listen and I have an understanding of why certain stages happen. I have learned that all stages are normal; however, some stages may require additional attention than others. Sedra Spano writes an article on the “Stages of Adolescent Development” and shares, “The normal feelings and behaviors of the middle school and high school and high school adolescent can be categorized into four broad areas: moving towards independence; future interests and cognitive development; sexuality; and ethics and self-direction” (Spano, 2014). This perspective would require much attention to detail. And although, the problems that adolescents and youth face are challenges I faced during my phase and also when I was learning my son’s phase. I believe that each problem is a blessing. The blessing is an opportunity to grow and learn. As the danger in drugs, alcohol, and social media arise, it takes more than lecturing or like my son’s says, “barking,” to perspective an understanding from the adolescent, the method is to hear and listen to them. I sure have learned a ton, when I just listen to my son. Nevertheless, if I listen to my son, I will know how to respond to him in a loving and understanding manner. From a biblical perspective, Joseph was 17 when his brothers sold him and abandoned him. As a 17, his heart was crushed. I can’t even imagen the brokenness he dealt with; however, God blessed him. Another biblical perspective, is the story if David. David was under 20 when he faced Goliath. David’s mindset was determination. Mary, the mother of Jesus was a young mother. She gave birth from the age range of 10-14 years old. Now, from the biblical perspective, Joseph, David, and Mary, all experienced different phases; however, the experiences were human nature. The phases are normal for an adolescence and youth, yet, the phases maybe harder in some areas
