Restorative comes from the Latin word “Restaurare”, which means to restore . Restorative Justice system is based on the concept of bringing back together , the victim , the offender as well as the community , to repair the damage caused by the crime . This damage can be sociological , physical , emotional , financial , or psychological . The victim has the choice either he/she wants to participate and if they are not comfortable with the process they can refuse to participate . The victim and the offenders have a collective meeting and their friends, family members can also participate in it .The main focus of this meeting is to understand ,what happened and why , who was affected and how ,and how can they repair the damage of the crime . These can also be explained as three stages . The first stage is where the offender has the to describe the offence in detail .The second stage is to find out how does that crime affected the victim . So , this is the open opportunity for the victim to express , how that crime affected them , they can express their deepest feeling about what they feel and how they suffer . The last but not the least , is the stage of restoration . This may focus on the ways , plans or actions , that might help to repair the harm caused by the crime . It helps to maintain the equilibrium stage of victim . Another good thing about this process of restorative justice system is that , it will give a voice to victim , they will gather the courage against the crime they have faced while , on the other side it will help the offender to understand what his action caused to the …show more content…
Canada also replaced Youth Criminal Act by the Youth Criminal Justice ACT on April1,2003. This new act takes into account the principal of restorative justice system and a decrease in the incarcerations . This basically helped the yung offenders to recreate themselves in better ways.
Thinking Restorative justice system
Restorative justice system is a better approach to the justice system , it not only depends upon the victim satisfaction level but also takes in account to improve the relations in the community hat are damaged by the crime . It deals with crime as a harm and focus on repairing , while in the reparation the offender gets an understanding of his actions and how they have affected the victim.
There is a need of evolution for restorative Justice system, which will help to build a better future and a more improved
