Bach: Works for Trumpet – Alison Balsom, trumpet As always with Alison, …show more content…
Tine Thing Helseth’s Storyteller really was a journey through many stories. Similarly to her last album, Helseth presented an intriguing and mysterious setting. From my understanding, my conclusion to these mysterious reactions stem mainly from the style of playing. Each line of music tells a different sentence and each line moves in its own way. One set of songs in particular from this album that showcases this well is the “The Mountain Maid” song cycle. After some preliminary research on this piece, this piece was actually originally written for soprano voice. I did not find any records of transcription for trumpet until Helseth. Anyways, I am glad Tine decried to play this song cycle as it appropriately painted a picture of loss and love that that she was aiming for. Overall, it is hard to capture entirely in words exactly what both of Helseth’s albums have done for my musical imagination and ability. Bravo to Tine Thing Helseth on a job well
