Throughout life, people learn to admire a person who can stand up for themselves, people who are courageous. “Bullying is fire, courage is smoke”(Benjamin Disraeli.) This quote gives people a look on how being able to stand up to a bully, shows a lot of courage. Being able to stand up for people and others plays a big role throughout life and managing to push through rough times. Courage will take people far places in life and is very helpful to humans. He begins to gain courage, and Amir is not afraid to show power more often now. He gained courage from Baba, And began to feel power just like Baba did. Amir felt like he could stand up for himself and not feel terrified by the things or people that have circled his life, Amir would have turned out different if Baba treated him differently. In The Kite Runner, power plays a huge role throughout the book, but mostly power is seen through characters in the novel. First, Assef was Amir’s worst nightmare in the early stages of the novel and as he gets older and wiser, he realizes not to be scared anymore. While Amir stands up to Assef when trying to receive Sohrab, he begins to show his power progress and becomes more courageous: “‘Tell me why.””Thats my business,” I said. I didn’t know what had emboldened me to be so curt” (Hosseini 285.) What pushes Amir to talk back is Sohrab, Amir wants Sohrab and is going to do as much as he can to get him back. And how Amir wants power and wants to be treated like he has power. Amir values this moment because younger Amir would have never talked back to Assef.
