Nick’s Narration… A Complete Fail… Or a Novel Engenius Success?
The Great Gatsby, a great book right? And the narrator, What a great job he does by giving the story… or does he?...
In The Great Gatsby, Nick remains uncertain about the “greatness” of Gatsby, showing that perhaps Gatsby isn’t as great as the rumors make him out to be. Nick begins the story as a low minimum wage worker trying to get through life in Crazy 1922 New York and trying his best to succeed in his dream of becoming what he wants to be, but on his way to that dream he begins to get curious over the man that lives next to him… Gatsby (Fitzgerald 123). After Nick receives to opportunity to meet Gatsby,(as a narrator of the story) He tends to say all the good things about Gatsby but never the bad things… such as why the mysterious phone calls that gatsby makes or the fact on how gatsby even became rich? During Nick’s Narration he never actually gives all the details needed, The only fact that is given is that Gatsby helped Meyer Wolfsheim from wrecking his ship and saving him, but that was justy how gatsby learned to become a gentleman, how to speak and act, but still Nick doesn 't give us the info (Fitzgerald 54). Throughout the story Nick is technically an outsider but his part in the story is very important due to that Gatsby dies and Daisy flees, Nick would be the only one left to give Gatsby 's story… well Nick’s view of Gatsby’s story (Nick as a Narrator). Throughout the story Nick is pretty much the most sober from the many characters that surrounds him (Nick as a Narrator). Most of the time people are pretty much drinking and partying and well a drunk person isn 't very reliable but Nick during this period is the most reliable. In addition Nick says some quotes, he ends up contradicting himself and changing his mind with the opinion that he has
