Framing is very important because how a media outlet presents an issue affects the readers/viewers understanding and response to an event (Rubin, A. M., & Haridakis, P. M., 2000). There is still research that focuses on how the media chooses what source, visual, and commentary to focus the attention of the public to a specific issue and divert the attention from another issue that may arise. Studies have been made based on the coverage of international conflicts and how the news media framed those conflicts. One example that the reading mentions is how, “German (1995) looked at how the Bush administration justified intervention in the Gulf War and overcame the negative public meaning of Vietnam by using language aimed at recalling images of World War II” (Rubin, A. People feel like the don 't need to show up for in person, they just need to call the person and talk to them through the phone. They feel that “phoning in” counts as them being there. Another thing is that if people can use their cell phones to let other people know where they are, they can also lie about their whereabouts. People who are involved in affairs find their cell phones to be very effective in covering their tracks, but suspicious partners may check their phones for signs of infidelity. Deceptive uses of a cell phone include stage-phoning or phone-shielding. Stage-phoning is when a person pretends to be having an important call to impress strangers.
