Some advantages include: (1) Increased information and knowledge. By bringing together experiences from several individuals within a company it allows the team to access more information. (2) Increased acceptance of a solution. Those who are part of making a decision would most likely be the best in supporting, and encouraging others to accept the decision. (3) Higher performance levels. Working in teams and brainstorming can actually drive individuals to think out of the box. Teams give a sense of belonging, self-worth, and can solve complex problems better that any one top individual.
Some disadvantages include: (1) Groupthink. Groupthink occurs when individuals feels intimidated, or pressured by peers, into thinking their opinions are not worth hearing. (2) Hidden agendas. Hidden agendas occur when some team members may have motives of trying to undermine another team member, or they just simply want to take control of the group; and (3) Cost. Cost affect the teams because of the arranging of meetings, aligning schedules and coordinating the project waste a lot of time and money.
