The three tiered structure of the Federal Court is represented by the US District Courts, US Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court's. Each individual level serves as a different function during Criminal and Civil Cases. The three Tiered Structure of California is represented by the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal as well as Trial Courts.
The US Supreme court is the highest court within the system, The court will only deal with the matters of the State and or the National Importance appeals. The court takes care of some of the US Supreme Court's cases, many of which are decided by the District Courts. Each State is assigned its to one of the 11 Judicial Circuits. Their are more than 175 Circuit Judges whom have been appointed by the president.The California Courts of Appeal has six appellate districts, and are based on geography.
