For me, the best benefit has been the people I have met and the friends that I have made that will be my friends forever! But I have also learned a lot by being a Girl Scout and had the chance to do things that I would not have had the chance to do if I wasn’t a Girl Scout. We get to go camping, canoeing, and do cool things like archery. From cookie sales, we learn about businesses, selling and how to talk to people. We learn about setting goals, and budgeting. With camping, we have learned how to plan meals, comparison shop, and prepare those meals. These are things that we will use for our entire lives. At these meetings the delegate speaks for the girls and adults of the troops in your Service Unit. They bring the Service Unit’s concerns to these meetings. The Area Association meetings are held in October and February. In April, there is an annual meeting. At these meetings, the delegates, president, and board talk about Governance and Operations. Governance is laws and finances. Operations is talking about camps, planning activities for your Service Unit, and recruiting girls, adults, and volunteers. At the meetings, the delegates’ concerns are recorded and followed up on after the meeting. The delegates should come to the meetings prepared to share the information they have gathered from the troops they represent. It is the delegates’ job to speak for the girls and adults in the troops that they represent and to bring back information from the meetings to share with their Service Unit. Although the board does not have an obligation to follow the recommendations of the delegates, they are an important link between the board of directors and the
