Homeostasis
Our body “contains proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, DNA and RNA” (Ireland, 2013, p. 18), and the body is only capable of maintaining a stable internal environment due to the property called homeostasis, which allows us to respond to changes in our internal environment by our behavior either consciously or unconsciously. How this is possible is related to the organization of the human body structure. As human beings, we can only function properly if we stay within narrow ranges of temperature and chemistry that comes from a “higher degree of organization” (Ireland, 2013, p. 18).
