Between the three different types diabetes, only 5% of people suffer from type 1. With an unknown cause, there are many effects from this disease. Ranging from short term to long term, and positive to negative effects, diabetes is a disease that one must be very disciplined to keep under control. This life-long disease still has no cure. In this paper, I will discuss the proposed cause and the many effects of type 1 diabetes.
Like many diseases that have an exact cause, type 1 diabetes is not one of those. From a personal stand point, my best friend has had type 1 diabetes for the past 5 years and is now a senior in high school. All throughout high school it has been difficult for him to constantly keep up with monitoring and tending to his diabetes; especially playing football and wrestling. He has his ups and downs where his glucose levels will get low or too high. He always tries his hardest and stays disciplined to keep his diabetes under control to try and avoid the long- term effects in the future. He constantly where’s a pump and tests his blood sugar levels multiple times a day. He has set a good balance for himself with the intake of carbs and not eating too many sugary foods. As of right now, the only effects from diabetes that he has are short-term.
When his glucose levels are too low he becomes loopy, silly, hungry, and very relaxed. When his levels are too high he gets uptight easily and becomes moody. The cause for his type 1
