As I have mentioned before due to their food intake vegetarians avoid diseases such as atherosclerosis and diabetes (Kelly, 2012). However, it appears that vegetarians are less exposed to cancer. For example, it is believed that one component that can protect us from bowel cancer is fiber, because it partly encourages the growth of a healthy bacterium in the gut. Fruits and vegetables contain a significant amount of fiber. Another component that can protect from cancer are antioxidants.
