Waste management is a public necessity and social benefit which is a determining factor for Avfall Sverige’s continued service. There is also clear division of roles and responsibilities that enable necessary investments and long-term regulations to be made and economical steering instruments to be used. There is a collective co-operation between municipalities and collaboration between public and private sectors as well as focus on communication and public engagement allowing everlasting success.

Due to the degree of decision-making power given to its responsibility centres and the limits of its functional work units, effective and timely decisions cannot be made centrally. Hence, Avfall Sverige is determined to be relatively decentralised. This will help improve decision-making timeliness, access to relevant decision information, provide opportunities to gain experiences and skills, empower employees and improve motivation for managers.
In doing so, Avfall Sverige will still have to look out for lack of communication of strategic objectives, whether consistent goals are met. The role of Management Accounting systems here is to ensure there is constant sharing of information to minimise these problems.
